Who are the CTP?
Every year, over 14,000 individuals leave the Armed Forces, and bring with them a range of qualifications and experience. Everyone who leaves will have unique personal circumstances and aspirations, and while making the adjustment from the military environment to the civilian world is a challenge, it also offers a chance to take stock and focus on the opportunities and possibilities that lie ahead.
In 1998 the CTP was formed as a partnership between the Ministry of Defence and Right Management - talent and career management experts within the ManpowerGroup. With almost 25 years’ experience in helping individuals transition from the military to civilian life, we’re best placed to connect you with the skilled individuals needed for success.
By incorporating support provided by The Forces Employment Charity, we’re uniquely positioned to understand exactly what’s required in the world of work, as well as the needs of our Service leaver candidates.
Plus, our partnership with the Ministry of Defence means we’re government funded. This allows us to provide you with our recruitment services and expertise completely free of charge.
To date, we’ve worked with thousands of organisations to recruit over 250,000 Service leavers from the Royal Navy, Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Marines. The companies we work with are looking for engaged, skilled and hard-working people.
Our aim is to provide you with highly trained and motivated candidates who are ready to add value to your organisation – and the ex-military talent pool offers exactly that.
By utilising the unrivalled pool of Service leaver talent available to us, we’re able to help organisations like yours find the best and brightest employees on the market.
Service leavers possess a huge number of transferable skills including teamwork, leadership, communication, an unparalleled work ethic, and in many cases, hard skills and qualifications in areas such as engineering, electronics and project management.
We work with our Service leavers from two years before they leave, to two years post-discharge - ensuring they have the tools needed to confidently market themselves in an open job market. This includes creating a CV, learning interview skills, identifying future options, and researching and applying for jobs. We also advise and support Service leavers on any additional training they may require in order to secure their desired role.
The CTP’s large network of career specialists support candidates in their transition to civilian life either into a fulfilling next career, retirement, further education or self-employment.
Our integrated resettlement provision consists of four key programmes which ensures all members of the Armed Forces receive the right support dependent on their circumstances and time served. Each programme is designed to provide leavers with the right support, depending on the outcome they are seeking.
The majority of leavers are seeking a new career in ‘Civvy Street’ and their programme will be tailored to meet those aspirations and achieving their job seeking goals. This will be through personal career guidance, undertaking vocational training, and a wealth of other activities to create tailored CVs, and better understand the job market.
Other leavers who have a desire to start their own businesses, undertake courses and workshops that will give them the tools and knowledge to make those plans, plus additional guidance on funding and the legal aspects of self-employment.
Leavers who discharge within the first four years of service receive support from our Future Horizons programme which assists them in finding a sustainable vocational outcome. As Early Service Leavers tend to be young adults, support is focused on providing them with access to the training, personal development, educational courses and apprenticeship opportunities they need to overcome barriers to work, become ‘job ready’ and find suitable employment once discharged from service.
Our CTP Assist programme offers a specialist career service to support Personnel on Recovery Duty (PRD) with the aim of achieving a sustainable and fulfilling career, regardless of time served.
The CTP Assist programme offers flexible support with a longer timeline as required, depending on the nature of the medical condition and recovery pathway. We work with many organisations who can offer supported work placements and support rehabilitation into the workplace for leavers on this programme.
Our programmes support the most junior, right up to the most senior executive level leavers of the Armed Forces to give them a solid foundation of knowledge, new skills and a clear plan for when they leave the military. A critical element that runs in parallel to this, is raising awareness amongst employers, like you, to understand the untapped and skilled talent pool available. The relationship we build across all industries, open up routes to employment for leavers and veterans, whilst meeting your recruitment needs and bringing fantastic talent into your organisation.
