Choosing diverse suppliers is important to us. We have achieved supplier diversity across our supply chain
Supplier diversity is becoming increasingly important for our clients, and whilst across ManpowerGroup globally we are working to improve the diversity of our employees and candidate pools, it’s just as important that the suppliers we work with reflect these values too.
Supplier diversity resulted from the Black Power movement in the US in the 1960s. It initially focused on ethnic minority owned businesses then broadening to five major categories: Ethnic Minority, Women, LGBTQI+, Disabled and Veteran.
Businesses with strong programmes in the US have expanded programmes internationally due to their success. With minority-owned businesses contributing £74 billion to the UK economy (with 21 of the top 39 located outside of London in deprived areas) and women owned businesses contributing £105 billion to the UK economy, with potential to contribute a further £250bn, supplier diversity is key.
Our Working to Change the World Plan lays out how we are setting ambitious goals that lean into our people and our purpose.
Not just focusing on majority-owned diverse organisations, we’ve increased our connection with suppliers who are diversity champions in a variety of ways – whether that’s businesses that are 51% majority-owned by minority groups; who’s workforce is proportionately diverse; or where the organisation is working to make improvements to their local community.
The intention is to encourage diversity across the board, as a means to supporting our clients as supplier diversity becomes increasingly more important, and to stay true to our core value of ‘Doing Well by Doing Good’.
