Talent for transformation: digitalisation, innovation, and new business models require IT staff with specialised skills. After all, companies can only ensure that they get the most out of forward-looking technologies if they have the appropriate expertise.
At the same time, however, the skills shortage in this field is particularly striking. HR leaders are encountering massive problems in IT recruitment, which may put the brakes on the entire digital transformation. The consequences of staff shortages include delayed projects and soaring costs. A study conducted by the industry association Bitkom in Germany in 2022, for example, illustrates how serious the situation is. The study revealed that there was a shortage of 137,000 IT staff in 2022, with an average of seven months required to fill a position.
There are various causes behind this trend. Alongside the increasing need for personnel due to the success of digital transformation itself, demographics also play a role here too. As the people in society get older, the number of people in employment generally shrinks. Furthermore, since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, more and more people have been dropping out of regular working life ("The Great Resignation"). These are all good reasons for HR leaders to optimise the employee recruitment and develop new strategies. We want to provide you with five tips that should help.
