How we’re building the talent pool of the future
Paul, formerly a welder and glass technician, speaks passionately about his role and workplace. "I couldn’t be in a better place, and I give the company my 100% day in, day out,” he says. “Getting my Class 1 and Class 2 driving licenses was a big change for me – it opened up a lot of opportunities.”
His enthusiasm is something that both Adam Hawas, his Manpower Talent Agent, and Gary Joyce, Transport Controller at Calor and Paul’s manager, can vouch for.
“There was no job Paul couldn’t do,” they both agree when looking back at Paul’s first year with the company.
After spending a year in the role, displaying immense dedication and commitment, Paul was ready for the next step. With Adam’s help, Manpower was able to help him progress by funding part of his Class 1 Mini Bulk Driver licence certifications − a career move that Paul had showed great interest in. “Within three years Paul went from an entry level role to being one of the top drivers in his fleet,” Adam says.
Paul is one of 68,000 associates worldwide who have successfully started a new career through Manpower's MyPath programme. Launched in the UK in 2020, this exclusive upskilling programme connects high-performing Associates with opportunities to advance their skills and increase their earning potential whilst on assignment. And for clients the benefits are multiple.
By having a deep understanding of our talent, and by keeping them engaged and inspired, we’re able to provide a predictable pipeline of skilled and motivated talent to our clients, improving the quality and productivity of the workforce and resulting in:
Better UTILISED and better SKILLED Talent
Increased RETENTION rates, more ENGAGED and MOTIVATED talent
Greater PRODUCTIVITY and FASTER and HIGHER placements
Increasingly clients are coming to us talking about the skills shortage and the concern they have around what the future holds. What MyPath allows us to do is work with those clients and develop a joint approach to overcoming the skills shortage.
To grow and compete in today’s economy, organisations are under more pressure than ever to find and motivate talent with the right skills, increase workforce performance and productivity, reduce turnover and manage costs. With 77% of employers unable to find the skills they need, the MyPath programme is a solution to helping close those skills gaps. By enabling our high-potential Associates to upskill and access jobs in growing sectors, Manpower is building the talent pool of the future – providing businesses with a sustainable solution to access predictable, in-demand talent when they need it.
The MyPath programme allows us to look at the people that are displaying the qualities we value in the workplace and then determine where our skills gaps are, and look to see if we can take those people that have the personal qualities and attributes that are important to us and give them some additional skills and qualifications to plug those gaps. Our relationship with Manpower is really important because they bring the right calibre of person to us at the right time to help us discharge our responsibilities towards our customers."
Paul’s journey from the production floor to a life on the road is just one example of how the upskilling opportunities available through MyPath can propel careers in new and fulfilling directions, whilst providing businesses with motivated and work-ready talent. Through the programme, which delivers on Manpower’s mission of “doing well by doing good”, many more have joined Paul in making successful career moves. Currently more than 2,400 Associates in the UK are going through the MyPath programme, and the plan is to enrol 250,000 by 2025.
